
The word Vastu derives from the Sanskrit word 'vas' which means 'to dwell, to live, stay or to reside.' In Sanskrit vastu means 'a dwelling or house with a corresponding plot. Collectively 'vastu shastra' can be defined as 'science of dwellings' or at large 'science of architecture'. This ancient Vedic science describes and illustrates a set of rules or guidelines for us to as principles of design, layouts, measurements, space arrangements and spatial geometry. It further deals with space organization, form of the buildings based on their respective functions. The design rules are envisioned to integrate architecture with nature, the relative functions of various parts of the structure, and ancient beliefs utilizing geometric patterns (yantra), symmetry and

The theory of Vastu Shastra is broadly conceptualized on the idea of achieving the right balance and harmony for the Vastu Purush between the three key spaces
Vastu Purush is primarily an interpretation or reflection of the person residing in the dwelling. When the above mentioned three integral spaces are in harmony, it is believed that the axis of all the 'body chakras' remains central and aligns all the chakras of Vastu Purush - meaning the residents on the property. This is the secret of yogik practice in India be it from yoga, meditation or for that matter Vastu Shastra. Vastu principles are applicable to individuals and all habitual built forms such as - residential buildings, houses, office complexes, industries, educational and academic institutions, commercial complexes, theatres, hospitals, temples, hotels, malls, etc.
